  • Not customizable. Device use times can only be set on the hour/half hour.

Users are only able to set a device to start or stop on the hour or half hour. Life does not work that way. For example, if I want to let my child use the computer from 5:40pm to 6:10pm, I cannot do it. I would have to set it to turn on at 5:30pm and off at 6:30pm and set it to allow 30 minutes of use. That also means I can’t have another window of time later that day, say 7:10-7:40pm, because I’ve limited the total use to 30 minutes. The only way to truly customize device use down to the minute with Family Safety is to allow zero time, then have the child send a request for more time. I can then permit a range of minutes from 5m to 8h59m. But this can only be done in real time —- I can’t do it in advance, which I would like to do. And I’m not always immediately available to set the controls. This defeats the purpose of setting daily/weekly controls. This is a simple fix! All it would take is a number wheel or number pad to allow entry of specific times. Please, please let parents control the start/stop time of our children’s devices. (Who does Microsoft think we are, Apple users who need functionality to be dumbed down?!? And even Apple’s Screen Time allows for fine-tuning parental controls down to the minute!) Very dissatisfied with this, Microsoft.

Downloaded app. Goes through the first couple of steps to set up. Once it gets to the point where i can give location services i can go no further. There is a nice green next button to hit but it does nothing. Have deleted and reinstalled 5x and the same.
  • What did you do and why? (Family Safety)

The family safety features were touched and they should’ve been left alone. When I open to see what my kids have done it says, sorry can’t load please refresh” and I refresh and it NEVER LOADS! I could do everything from the app and now it’s useless. I’ve uninstalled, done the latest update, still the same message. So frustrating as a parent who wants to monitor my kids computer activity.
  • Doesn’t work.

I authorized my daughter 3 hours on Google Chrome - yet - there is no handshake. No matter how many time I authorize, and no matter for how long, it just never registers. Very frustrating for both parties.
  • Constant issues

Their updates are always causing issues. Xbox screen time and screen time on the laptop could be shared but now they have their own individual limits, which makes it difficult to monitor. Also, used screen time isn’t showing up on the app. Please fix!
  • Permission requests do not work

I had to restart my kid's machine for it to acknowledge that I allowed the permission request she sent. Of course this took half the evening. Way to go Microsoft. Just bet all your money on AI and serve mediocrity to your customers everywhere else today.
  • Disappointing

Very disappointing app. As profitable as Microsoft is as a company, this app, to help parents regulate their kid’s addition to computers and gaming, is woefully inadequate. I’ve tried dozens of times to add a device to my child’s account and am getting nowhere. I googled the Microsoft support number and it routes me to an automated message telling me to go online. Of course, the online portal only provides answers to several basic questions - none of which pertain to my issue. Then, I called the same Microsoft support number back and it told me to go online to get help with the Family Safety app. So they recorded my number and issue and automatically recognized it. This is a terrible product without any support to parents that are trying to do the right thing, for a company that makes billions of dollars a quarter. I’ll be using Apple products going forward.
  • Update removed limits

Ever since the last update, it seemed to remove the time limits and schedules I set for the device. I’ve tried to mess around and recreate new schedules and time limits to see if there are any changes but does not seem to work. My child is always dumbfounded when I tell him he’s been on the Xbox for hours.

Work just fine. Do really wish could set app limit times to 15 minute intervals instead of just 30.
