I really like the app and feels like it works really well. However, I noticed that before you only needed to pay for Super Duolingo to get heart replenished and no ads. Now, to get hearts replenished to practice for longer, you need to upgrade to Duo Max. That’s an extra $8 a month! It’s not worth it to me to pay for the app anymore, especially when it feels like they are trying to force people to use Duo Max. Free version is fine but I don’t plan to upgrade to Super Duolingo anymore until they re-add the replenishment of hearts.

I've been paying for Duolingo since 2022, but I think I'm going to have it lapse. With today's update, they removed things I had completed from the Japanese learning path and removed one lesson I was partly done with. In an app that's all about progression, you need to respect peoples' accomplishments. Outside of that, community features are constantly being removed and the lessons are designed not to maximize learning, but to maximize your need to buy boosts. The app could truly be great, but it makes a mix of baffling or stingy decisions threaded through dark UX patterns.
