  • Needs landscape mode

The app needs to support landscape mode on an iPad. Looks like it did at one time - bring it back!
  • It would be fine without the ads

As a general news reading app, it’s fine, but the ads make it unusable. They just pop up every couple seconds while you’re trying to read. Terrible experience.
  • orientation problem

So frustrating that this app version only allows vertical orientation. Does not work well for reading on an IPAd.
  • Unstable app

The app consistently fails to completely load. It will begin to boot up and then disappear. On the increasingly rare times it opens the app is fine.
  • No more landscape view

My iPad sits on a stand and all of my apps use the landscape view… except the Chicago Tribune. I have three other newspapers that present in the landscape view, and I don’t want to readjust my iPad for the Chicago Tribune. So I simply stopped reading it most of the time. I tried to change the orientation, but it appears that this is a feature of the app. Pretty frustrating for a lifetime reader of this newspaper, 45 years.
  • Stop the pop up ads!

I pay for the paper and access to the app but i can’t read an article from start to finish without one pop up ad after another.
  • REQUIRES SIGN-IN each time I read eNewspaper

Along with deactivating landscape view permanently for all users, using the eNewspaper now requires you to login EACH AND EVERY TIME you access it. The app opens it in a self-contained “safari window”, which doesn’t recognize that I have unlimited digital access and requires ,e to login each and every time. I’ve stopped using this awful, awful app. I read the paper on chicagotribune.com and suggest others do the same. Shame on your app developers for taking something once so useful and making it a miserable experience for all.

  • The most intrusive ads

I get it that news organizations need ad revenue to survive. But the Chicago Tribune’s app has turned into a minefield of intrusive ads that make it impossible to read a story. I’m a paying subscriber with digital access and Wednesday and Sunday print delivery. Still, I’m fine with a few ads. What the Tribune app has devolved into is unusable. Video ads pop up every five seconds whether you click on something or not. The ads completely block out the screen. I still support the Trib and enjoy their coverage but it seems the hedge fund ownership of Alden Capital is clearly not intent on making the hard work of the newsroom accessible, even to paying customers. It’s a shame.
  • Very glitchy

I pay a subscription and sometimes it’s hard to get rid of the videos even after you close the ads. The app is very glitchy .
