It’s amazing that it pulled in my grandparents and great grandparents from United States federal census from years ago.
  • Lost access to dna/thru lines features due to new requirements and glitches

I renewed the subscription last fall as a gift for a family member who has been a paying member for about 20 years. Not long after, most dna, thru lines and several other areas were locked. So now we have to deal with 2FA because suddenly that is required. Well, that code to enable it has not arrived after numerous tries. They are blaming her email provider, but that’s what was used to sign up and the account is locked to that email. The membership ends in the fall, we won’t be renewing. This has been a problem for other members I have spoken to as well. Also recently I can’t save any records or photos on any device or browser for months. That’s the norm now. Time to find a genealogy site that treats members better.

Corporate Greed has now hit Ancestry. They used to show shared matches but now require you pay a subscription. Pathetic.

I love this app. It is so cool to see you heritage, and family you have from the other side of the world! This was a really cool experience and I love getting updates on new people I am related to. Also I payed extra to see my passed down traits, and it was worth it! I thought it was really cool and apparently I have a sweet sensitivity! I guess that why a lot of sweets are way too sweet for me. And also they keep adding more and more traits!

This app used to work well and now it’s a mess. The app swirls and doesn’t save changes, or saves but doesn’t show the changes. It’s been this way for a couple months and it hasn’t been fixed. In my opinion this makes the app useless. Searches on an ancestor have always been a struggle on the app. But now there are too many bugs; it’s more frustrating than helpful for my research. I avoid it and now only work on a browser.
  • Is it possible to have an update without breaking things?

Before I start complaining, I want to make it clear that I like the app. I really do - I use it all the time. I’m just getting very tired of some feature breaking with every single update. They finally got the thing where it randomly added pictures to the wrong person fixed, but then you briefly couldn’t add profile pics at all, which was frustrating. That too has been fixed, but then it was briefly not saving relationship info - everything went in as ‘unknown’, no matter what, unless you added it manually - which fortunately seems to have stopped now. However, it’s currently refusing to save any marriage or divorce info from records - it has to be added manually every time. The most recent update changed the add picture function so you can’t specify what type it is or tag people while adding - you have to edit it after the fact. Maybe this was supposed to be more efficient or something, but I find it super annoying. I don’t want everything categorized automatically as a ‘portrait or family photo’! Also, the little pop up asking if I want to invite the person I’ve just added to help with my tree is driving me mad. Whose brilliant idea was that?? I can’t find a way to turn it off. Also, and this has been a thing forever, anytime a record has a suffix after a name - Jr, Sr, male or female when someone entered info in the wrong fields - the app automatically adds it, overwriting what you may already have there, even when you do not tell it to change the name field. If it says ‘Jr’, I do not want that overwritten with ‘junior’ - it may mean the same thing, but it’s messy and I don’t like it. If I want it changed, I’ll tick the box to overwrite! And I definitely don’t ever want ‘male’ or ‘female’ randomly populating in the suffix field. These are only my most recent grievances, and they do not render the app unusable, but I feel like it’s slowly getting less and less functional as time goes on.

My daughter started our family tree, and after receiving her invitation I was soon enthralled with adding new branches. I found it comforting knowing all of family members that will await meet when I cross over someday.
