  • Free Version is Very Cumbersome

It won’t let you automatically use the food items you enter in order to enter them in the recipes you create. It takes forever to find those food items in “Add Ingredient.” There are so many third party apps linked to different features that it takes awhile to actually figure out what is part of the original app and not a veiled advertisement for some subscription plan.
  • An app in decline

Used to be amazing, but recent changes in monetization have really made the app go down hill.

This app used to be awesome. And then Nike bought it, and now most of what made it good is behind a paywall. For example, used to be able to scan the bar code to add food to your daily log, but after MANY YEARS of it being free, it suddenly was made only available for premium (aka Paid) members. They just keep taking away everything good about the basic version app and slowly charging for it. Instead of charging for additional features, they are just removing free features and adding them for paid subscribers only. After 10+ years, I’m finally moving all of my history over to another app and closing my account. And I’ll gladly pay that app because they were upfront from day 1 instead.

I’ve been on this app for a few days. It seems easy to navigate and very informative. I’m learning about macros. Since tracking my food, I can see how much protein, carbohydrates and fats I am consuming each day.

It’s a decent app but burying some of the more basic features behind a subscription and not offering any sort of family discount turned me off. I’d pay the $80 a year if I could share it with my wife. Not paying $160 a year. I’d even pay $20 a year per person just to have access to the food scanning, but I’m not going to pay the full amount for a single feature I care about.

Love my fitness pal. It help me track of my food as to educate me about foods. I will highly recommend it to anyone who look to lose or maintain weight.
