It has 10 minutes of commercials for every five minutes of the show! Don’t get this!
  • Good shows, too many ads

Overall it has a lot of good shows to watch, however it has waaaayyyy to many ads. It’s hard to enjoy the show with ads popping up every 5 to 10 minutes.
  • To many ads!

I was going to start using this app after the 7 day free trial but after every minute there’s more ads from 2 minutes long to 45seconds, I felt like I watched more ads then my show. Very disappointing, since the reviews say other wise.
  • You get what you pay for

Philo is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for” does it have a lot of channels you usually watch with cable providers? Absolutely yes. Does it also have trade offs that you deal with because of the price? Again, absolutely yes. You get discovery channels, Comedy Central, history channels and a bunch of routine channels you would flip through and usually find something to watch. However, the trade offs are that there’s no “previous channel” command with the remote. The channel guide is very slow and unresponsive. The picture sometimes becomes skittish but pausing and playing usually fixes that. The thing that really gets me is the ads. Its almost entirely all black people advertisements. No matter the channel, it’s the same ads (which I guess makes sense). It’s a bunch of black people shows with black people acting dirty, raunchy and unappealing. So far I’ve dealt with all this because of the price. It really is a good deal. But I’m one price increase away from canceling

First of all, the app isn’t available with our TV. We tried to cast with our browser but it wouldn’t ever load longer than 30 seconds. It was literally 10 minutes of buffering for 30 seconds of TV. We had to buy a Roku in order to use the service, in addition to the $25 price of Philo. The worst part of Philo though is the number of ads they have. We’re paying $25 which is the highest price you can find compared to any streaming service and almost as much as cable, and they don’t even have very many options to watch. Our show we bought the service for was 5 minutes show time for 2.5 minutes of ads. So our hour-long episodes (that are 45 min without ads on normal TV) are almost 1.5 hrs to watch on Philo. Completely not worth it, we decided we are canceling after we watch the current season of our show.
  • More advertisements than regular TV

Way more advertisements in one episode then there would be on regular TV. It’s extremely frustrating considering $25 monthly is a steep price and comparison to its competitors. I wouldn’t waste your time with this app.

DO NOT spend $25 on the most ads than any other streaming see I’ve ever. The app doesn’t work.. you think if I spent $25 I could potentially watch my show while on the shotter… but that’s the bare minimum and you can’t even do that. The UI is terrible, you can fast forward like a normal streaming service. Just save yourself the money and trouble, just wait until those shows come out on a better platform. Def not worth $25.

Fix your Apple TV app. The audio is out of buffer with the video. Only app that has this problem on my device. And force quitting the app just is a temporary fix.

One of the worst. Can’t rewind, fast forward or pause or the entire show starts over every time!! Horrible.
  • Terrible glitches for an app that requires a subscription

I rarely write reviews but this app is just unbelievably bad… I downloaded the app with the hopes of watching a specific episode of a show I love. Firstly, the ads are like 6-7 minutes long when the runtime between episodes feels way shorter than the ads themselves. When I tried to monitor how long a single ad was, the timer would count down from 7 seconds, freeze at 4 seconds, then jump up to 11 seconds (the ad was about 3 minutes). Initially I wasn’t mad about it however, it turned an hr long episode into a 3 hr episode because some advertisements would start over completely. If there was any interference with my internet connection, the app would freeze, quit out & when I would reopen the app I would have to wait another 6-7 minutes. If this were an app that didn’t require a paid subscription, I wouldn’t be as pressed to write about this but since it does, save your money!!
