As a fund manager and life-long student of economics, The Economist (together with The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal) is essential reading. I in particular am a college student, and a great thing about this publication is it offers a generous student discount. I highly recommend this (along with FT and WSJ of course) if just to be smarter with your money, more informed about more technical developments in the world, and sated by top-notch journalism.
  • Poor technical implementation of great content

The app does a terrible job of delivering best-in-class content via an average and unimaginative information architecture and user experience. Boot time is measured in seconds. It should be in hundreds of milliseconds. And the latency/responsiveness of navigation elements is greater than 100ms and so appears broken. Poorly architected and poorly implemented. For a subscription based business model, this makes the experience frustrating and beyond unacceptable.

After the latest app update, whenever I open it my iPhone (new) gets super slow and navigating the articles becomes a patience exercise. It was great before though. I hope they correct this issue soon.
  • Content is great, app is painfully slow

I find myself doing basic things like clicking on an article and it takes 3 seconds for the article to open. Very frustrating.
  • Excellent weekly briefing of world affairs

I’ve been reading The Economist for more than a decade. It amply fills the need of informing me of the news and what’s important around the world.
  • Glitchy

I love The Economist but the app is glitchy. There are bugs related to preserving the last page read, the advertisements bleeding into the articles, and freezing and unexpected crashes.

Great content. But now, in the digital version, before almost EVERY article, an ad flashes on the screen preventing you from reading. Horribly disruptive even if it is only for a second or so. Ruins completely the reading experience. Constantly have to relog in. Subscription doesn’t give legal spouse access to digital content. No meaningful customer service.

Have used the app for years, always love the reporting and analysis but for the past month or so I haven’t been able to read a full article without the app crashing. Please fix this soon!
  • Poor performance recently

Big fan of the economist, but lately the app has fallen short. Very slow response times despite strong network connection. Touch responsiveness is very bad, where it can take several seconds after tapping an article for the app to respond. Images are very sensitive, opening when a simple scroll motion is used and then taking several seconds to respond to a tap on the “close” button
